HistoryLink Article: 114 21st Avenue

Thank you to HistoryLink, Jennifer Ott, New Hope Baptist Church, New Hope Family Housing, and the Washington State Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation for the opportunity to write about the complicated legacy of Seattle Urban Renewal Enterprise (SURE) and the efforts today for redevelopment of the former SURE HQ site to create equitable anti-displacement housing that prioritizes Seattle's Central District residents.

It was a pleasure to collaborate with Historylink's Nick Rousso and Jill Freidberg, and grateful to Jean Fisher at Seattle Municipal Archives, Emily Venemon at Puget Sound Regional Archives, Black Heritage Society of Washington State, and the terrific Seattle Room staff at The Seattle Public Library.
